One of the best parts of being home together is how close the bond is between us all. Especially heartwarming is the children’s friendship. Above Sadie puts on a puppet show for Elijah. Below he returns the favor. The story lines were similar and always seemed to end with the puppets running screaming from the stage across the playroom and two children giggling hysterically.

We continue with our Star Wars Monopoly game. I continue to hover around the poverty line while the children put up apartments and towers. There is no ‘letting them’ win. They’re just winning (and not very gracefully…).

This game is Jenga with a twist. It comes with a colored dice and each player must roll to see the color of the plank that they will remove on their turn. It makes it a bit trickier but always fun when it topples.

It’s Electric!

Thanks Leon! We highly recommend the National Weather Service Lightning Safety page! We’ve got quite a storm going on outside today and just huddled around the laptop (not plugged in!) to find out more about thunderstorms and lightning safety.┬áLeon’s Lightning Safety Game was lots of fun and now we know all about how to protect ourselves from lightning whether we’re in the house or out and about. Go check it out!

Actress and Actuary

Sadie is about 1/2 way through with her semester of acting classes at Casa Manana and continues to enjoy them immensely. After a few classes of acting games and warm-ups, the class (about 6 girls and 2 boys aged 4 & 5) wrote their own play for the final public presentation. It is loosely (and hysterically) based on episodes 4,5,&6 of Star Wars.

Guess who’ll be playing Princess Leia? She’s thrilled and we’ve been practicing the hair-do. Here Sadie acts irritated at having her picture taken.

While Sadie is in her class each week, Elijah and I sit together on the floor playing Blokus, checkers, doing math problems in a practice book (that he will not write in b/c he loves to do them over and over), and other logic-based games and exercises to which he is drawn.
