Friday, September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. So, of course, one must celebrate! Our friend Declan invited us over for some pirate festivities.
Alistair eyes the cake I made from afar. It came out sooo cute! I love putting toys on cake.
Sadie finds a pirate ship toy.
Alistair gets dangerously close to said cake as mom Kelly appraises the cake pirating situation.
Elijah removes the sail from his pirate ship hot dog.
Ethan, Elijah, and Ehlayna unroll another piece of the map to the hidden treasure which turned out to be WAY better than gold (candy!).
Sword fights abounded and we were exhausted!
It just so happened that Plano decided to celebrate Talk Like a Pirate Day with the first launch of their hot air balloon festival that evening. Since we happened to be in the area, we went over to Hoblitzelle Park with some friends to check it out.
Sadie borrows Anna’s binoculars to get a better look. Turns out that the balloons need the wind to get over in our neck of the woods so we watched them from afar.
Elijah and Chris chatter and snack- needing a rest after some playground activity.
While we didn’t get the up-close view we’d been hoping for, it was still pretty cool to see all those balloons in the sky.
Not to mention that playing into the dark hours is so much fun! There were running races, soccer, rolling down hills (and rolling Parents down hills), and just plain fun!
This was a long, fun-filled, friend-filled day (with some swords and hot air balloons thrown in for good measure).

ARRRRRR! What fun!
Thanks for letting Anna & Gretchen spend so much time playing soccer with you guys – it was the highlight of their evening, I’m told!

I didn’t know it was Talk Like a Pirate Day till that evening. That looked like an awesome party.
Arrr! I’m so sad I didn’t know until that evening! I would have talked like a pirate all day! LOL! Looks like a fun time.
The balloon picnic time was fun though I was way disappointed that they didn’t make it our way. Good times.
Arrrrgh, Matey — it was a dastardly fun day at Declan’s! And, that cake you made was AWESOME!!!! (not to mention – really yummy!!)
The evening at the park looks like it was a great time for everyone! Too bad that the balloons didn’t venture close — but, still cool anyway!!
