A Berry Good Day June 22, 2008

We hit the ground running this morning with a drive out to Sadler, TX to attend Bailey’s Berry Farm’s annual Western Day. We actually went to pick blueberries so the Western Day was an added ‘bonus.’

They’re quite the pickers! Some of our friends were there as well which made it even more fun- especially when the picking got tiring and a game of tag seemed like a better option.

(from left) Ehlayna, Sadie (behind bush), Elijah, and Ethan pick this bush clean. Happy pickers stop for a break on the way back to the car. Snacking on popcorn and blueberry lemonade and very proud of their blueberry take.

After a little TV-induced rest, we went for our daily swim. Elijah and Sadie try to push their kickboards across the pool using the water squirters.

Elijah spotted a toad peeking out of the pool filter (a rather large one on the heels of a tiny one we had found a few minutes before). Coaxed into the pool so we could fish him out with the skimmer, he was a little freaked out but we were delighted to inspect him and determine why he was a toad and not a frog. After some online searching, we think he is a Texas Toad. Though we could not find this type of toad’s particular call, we did listen to many different frog and toad calls (type “frog call” or “toad call” in the search field to listen to several). We found a great site for learning a variety of information about frogs and their life cycle.

Sadie tries on her new ballet duds and does a few leaps and twirls. The class I was going to sign her up for is full for all the summer sessions. So Sadie has decided that we will have ballet class at our house. We have enough friends interested to do two sessions orchestrated by Mama and a library ballet for kids video. Stay tuned!

It WAS a berry good day! :-) We had a lot of fun with y’all. And, having friends there certainly helped the kids “last” longer. :-)

(we did some TV-induced relaxing as well — though, Mommy & Daddy were the only ones who actually “dozed off.”). :-)

The Texas Toad is very cool!

Mmm…blueberries…its just strawberry season starting up here now, which is funny to me, but hey – more strawberries is a good thing too! :) Can’t wait to get home and pick some blueberries though!

What fun! (says Christine, as she munches on blueberries…) Love the pool shots, and Sadie’s ballet outfit is the absolute bomb!
